Fast forward to the night I had to call the police.

I had been watching Apollo while she worked and I was off. I had gotten him to bed at a decent hour. I was exhausted but I stay up to wait for her to pick him up after work.

When she finally got off, she calls me on the way home. She tries to be cute and says “it’s going to be hard for me to come by, see you, and not want to stay.”

I solemnly say “yeah… well it is what it is.”

She is just determined to stay in my life.

She says “are you serious?”

Then she makes decision to change course and start going back to her home and not pick up Apollo.

I lost my ever loving mind. I screamed at her demanding she come pick him up. This was not the plan. I know I woke up the whole apartment.

Eventually she relents and comes to my apartment to get Apollo, but she wasn’t leaving easily. I didn’t want her to stay. I didn’t want to be with her. I was sick of her using our child to manipulate me. She had Apollo and I asked her to please leave. She was very loud and dramatic, screaming, sitting on the floor.

My sister had to come out and try to calmly ask her to leave. She had her on the couch talking to her asking to leave. I’m still sitting on the kitchen floor just trying to process what’s happening. She shoves my sister and grabs Apollo to leave.

She takes him to the car and I lock the door. That should have simply been the end of it.

My stepdad Rob, who is having a smoke on the balcony, says REDACTED is storming back, without Apollo.

I told him not to answer the door. But he does.

She tries to push her way through. Rob isn’t having it and is holding her off despite her hitting and shoving.

I immediately call 911 to tell them what’s happening. They ask me what she is wearing so I go to peak around the corner and I’m describing what she’s wearing. She can clearly tell that I’m on the phone with 911. She looks devastated and is sobbing. Then she retreats.

I’m fully aware that Apollo being left in the car was a terrible, terrible thing. I wish I had been more proactive about that but everything happened so fast.

About 5 minutes later cops begin to arrive. But she’s long gone. I think about 4 arrive in 4 different cars.

I explain the full situation and I’m transparent about the fact that she has a DVO out on me.

They tell me the reality of the situation is that in situations like this, I could be the one going to jail. That I need to be careful. My stomach dropped. At some point in the situation I mention that I had been meaning to go to the VA’s legal clinic because all this was getting out of control.

They ultimately used their discretion and let me be and charged her with Burglary in the 4th degree. One cop who was a vet told me I should get in with the VA clinic as soon as possible and time was of the essence.

Come Monday I go to the domestic violence intake center and file for my own emergency protection order.

The lady who spoke with me at intake was concerned this could blow back on me due to her DVO on me, but I proceeded with all my scathing details. Much worse things that I haven’t mentioned yet.

Details that would put her DVO to shame.
